Mr. Clemente Jacques arrived in Mexico in 1880 and founded the company Clemente Jacques y Cía. in 1887, initially dedicated to cork production for bottles. Over time, the company diversified its production, becoming prominent in the canned food market and other products like wood, ammunition, and confetti. It later also started producing labels and printed products.

After Clemente Jacques' death in 1940, the company was inherited by his three children. In 1967, the company was sold to United Fruit Co., an American consortium. The company moved to Querétaro in 1970 due to fiscal incentives and formed a board game division called "Pasatiempos Gallo." In 1977, United Fruit sold the card and game businesses to the VISA Group, which in 1982 offered them for sale through Banco Nacional de México.

In 1982, Mr. Luis Landin Peña purchased the card business of Clemente Jacques y Cía., strengthening his group with his experience in printing. Previously, his company "Ediciones de Arte Landin" had merged with "Calendarios y Propaganda, S.A." in 1971. In 1984, Luis Landin Peña expanded his business by opening a branch in the United States under the name "Don Clemente Inc.".
